Why choose us

Benefits of Veneers

Natural-Looking Porcelain

Our porcelain veneers are shaped and shaded to blend with your smile, and they reflect light much like natural enamel.

Covers Chips and Stains

Thin porcelain shells can cover chips, gaps, worn edges and discoloration that whitening alone may not change.

Planned Around You

We start with a cosmetic smile-design consultation so your veneers fit your face, your bite and your goals.

Close to Home

Patients across the Coulee Region can get veneers at our La Crosse, Holmen, Arcadia and Viroqua offices without traveling out of the area.

Comfort Built In

The Ascent Experience means warm towelettes, blankets, headphones and clear explanations at every visit.

A porcelain veneer is a shell of tooth-colored ceramic, roughly as thin as a contact lens, that is bonded to the front of a tooth to change its shape, shade or length. At Rivertown Dental, we place porcelain veneers for patients across Wisconsin's Coulee Region from our offices in La Crosse, Holmen, Arcadia and Viroqua. Many patients come to us with a chipped front tooth, a gap they have noticed in photos for years, or staining that whitening never quite reached.

Porcelain veneers cover the visible surface of the teeth that show when you smile. Because porcelain reflects light much like natural enamel, a well-planned veneer can blend with the teeth around it or become part of a larger, coordinated change across several teeth. We choose porcelain for its natural look and its resistance to staining from coffee, tea and other everyday habits.

Veneers can help people in many different situations. One patient may want to repair a single front tooth that chipped years ago. Another may have teeth that look worn down, uneven or slightly crooked. Others want a brighter, more uniform smile before a wedding, a career change or simply because they are ready. Veneers can help when:

  • Teeth have deep or uneven discoloration that whitening alone does not fully correct
  • Front teeth are chipped, worn or slightly misshapen
  • Small gaps or minor unevenness affect the look of your smile
  • Teeth appear short or out of proportion with your smile

Planning starts with a cosmetic smile-design consultation, where we look at your teeth, gums and bite and talk about what you would like to change. We also discuss how your smile fits your face and features, so the result looks like you and not like a set of new teeth. Our on-site dental lab lets our team work closely with the people shaping your restorations.

Good planning also means looking at the whole picture. If you have gum disease or untreated decay, we treat it first so your veneers start on a healthy foundation. If teeth are significantly misaligned, we may suggest clear aligners first. If you would like a lighter shade overall, in-office whitening beforehand can help us match your veneers to brighter natural teeth.

Am I a good candidate for porcelain veneers?

You may be a good candidate if your teeth and gums are healthy and your goals are mostly about appearance. The best way to know is an exam and an honest conversation with one of our dentists, who will explain whether veneers or another option fits your needs best.

Keep in mind that a small amount of enamel is usually removed so the veneer can sit naturally, so this change to your tooth can't be undone. If you clench or grind your teeth, tell us. We may recommend a night mouth guard to protect your veneers. For a tooth with a large filling or significant damage, a crown may be a stronger choice. We will walk you through the tradeoffs without pressure or judgment, whether this is your first visit in years or your fifth this year.

How do I care for veneers, and how long do they last?

Veneers are cared for much like natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss daily and keep up with regular cleanings and exams. Porcelain resists staining, but the natural teeth and gums around it still need the same attention they always have.

How long veneers last depends on your habits and home care. Avoid using your teeth to open packages, chewing ice or biting fingernails, and wear a mouth guard if we recommend one. At your routine visits, our hygienists and dentists check the edges of your veneers and the health of your gums so small issues are caught early. If a veneer ever chips or loosens, call us and we will look at it promptly.

How can I pay for veneers?

Veneers are usually considered cosmetic, so insurance coverage varies. We work with many dental insurance plans; please call your office to confirm your benefits. We also welcome self-pay patients.

Third-party financing through Cherry, CareCredit and Proceed Finance may help you spread the cost into monthly payments, subject to credit approval. For patients without insurance, our Rivertown Membership Plans, also called the VIP Program, include cleanings, exams, X-rays and fluoride plus a discount on treatment. Classic, Deluxe and Kids plans are available, and membership plans cannot be combined with insurance. Our team will review your options before treatment begins so there are no surprises.

Questions

Veneers FAQs

Are porcelain veneers covered by dental insurance?

Coverage for porcelain veneers depends on your plan, and many plans treat veneers as cosmetic. We work with many dental insurance plans, so please call your nearest Rivertown Dental office in La Crosse, Holmen, Arcadia or Viroqua and we will help you confirm your benefits. For patients without insurance, we offer the Rivertown Membership Plans, and third-party financing through Cherry, CareCredit and Proceed Finance is available to those who qualify.

Does getting porcelain veneers hurt?

Most patients find the process very manageable, and we focus on keeping you comfortable at every step. Through the Ascent Experience, you can relax with a warm towelette, a blanket, a support pillow, headphones and essential oils while we work. If you feel anxious about dental visits, ask us about IV sedation for adults so we can talk through what fits you best.

How long does it take to get porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers usually take more than one visit, starting with a cosmetic smile-design consultation where we listen to your goals and look closely at your teeth. From there, we prepare your teeth and craft your veneers, and having a dental lab on-site helps us keep the process close to home in the Coulee Region. We will give you a clear timeline for your own smile at your consultation.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Porcelain veneers are a long-lasting option, though how long they last depends on your daily care, your bite and habits like grinding your teeth. Regular cleanings and exams help us keep an eye on your veneers and the healthy teeth beneath them. If you grind or clench at night, we may recommend a night mouth guard to help protect your investment.

Am I a good candidate for porcelain veneers, and what are the alternatives?

Porcelain veneers are often a good fit for adults with healthy teeth and gums who want to improve chips, stains, gaps or uneven shapes. During your visit, we check your gum health and bite first, since those come before cosmetic care. Depending on your goals, we may also talk with you about in-office teeth whitening, clear aligners or crowns, so you can choose the option that feels right for you.
